Evaluation

                                                               Evaluation

In this unit we were asked to make photo manipulation on Photoshop, or other editing software to recreate a image that we either; took, scanned or got from the internet.

We were required to produce a blog consisting of all our preparatory experiments, contextual research, contact sheets and development of final images.

We had to experiment with as many different processes as possible and comment on our results, and consider hand rendered techniques and digital/film image capturing and scanning.

I enjoyed making this blog, and leant many techniques on the way, like layering images, different types of bushes and changing the layer type. I didn't enjoy the drawing part to this unit, as drawing isn't my strong point.

Things i would do differently if i were ever to do this again would spend more time on editing and more different types of research, also scan in more items.

Aims:
Scan more if needed.
Keep up with work.
Use different types of photoshop tools.

Britt Spencer

This illustration of Abraham Lincoln symbols his creative and intelligent mind.

Pete Pachoumis

After the tragic events of 9/11, many artists in the comic book industry were asked to contribute to a special project, the proceeds from which would go to help those affected by the attacks. This was Pete Pachoumis contribution.

I like this illustration by Pete Pachoumis because it symbols the 9/11, and the work that fireman done to save many lives. without them, the death count would be concisely more.

Jamel Akib

Images by Jamel Akib.

Jamel Akib work contains illustrations produced for advertising, design, editorial, publishing and children's books.

Vinnie Rice

I quite like this image by Vinnie Rice it looks fairly modern. It reminds me off a urban city/life. It also looks like it was a scribble and just kept on drawing things conneted to what he started at, but at the same time it looks professional. That is the main reason on why i like it.

Drawing that i scanned in. Editing was effortless just use the fill tool to colour it in. all the lines was conetted so the color didn't spill out of the picture.
I used this image for my other unit.
Not many things were changed, all that was not was; take the background out from the two hoops of the tower, then change it to a negitive, and then crop down the image,
This image was made on photoshop useing bushes that i downloaded from a website.
I do not really like this edit, because it is very simple to make, and didn't spend much time on it.

Just do it.

Edit on photoshop for a nike advert. This image has 3 main elements; the skater, the logo and the background.  If i were to re do this photo i would spend more time editing the skater so that it blends in better with the background and use a rubber tool to get rid out the white edge around him, altough you can not see it that well on the small image, but is very notisble on a large image.

Simple photoshop manipulation.
This process was very simple to do.
Make new layer
Use the bush tool over the smoke.
Then use a gradient blur.
Then change to overlay.
This was a edit from a scanned acrylic transfer. I wasn't very pleased with this edit. It was simple to do, just transfer the 3 elements into photoshop and line them up into the right place.

Photo manipulation

Photo manipulation

Photo manipulation is the application of image editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or deception (in contrast to mere enhancement or correction), through analog or digital means.

History

Before computers, photo manipulation was achieved by retouching with ink, paint, double-exposure, piecing photos or negatives together in the darkroom, or scratching Polaroids. Airbrushes were also used, whence the term "airbrushing" for manipulation.
The first recorded case of photo manipulation was in the early 1860s, when a photo of Abraham Lincoln was altered using the body from a portrait of John C. Calhoun and the head of Lincoln from a famous seated portrait by Mathew Brady – the same portrait which was the basis for the original Lincoln Five-dollar bill.

The 1980s saw the advent of digital retouching with Quantel computers running Paintbox, and Scitex imaging workstations being used professionally. Silicon Graphics computers running Barco Creator became available in the late 1980s which, alongside other contemporary packages, were effectively replaced in the market by Adobe Photoshop.

 Darkroom manipulation

Despite the popularity of digital photo manipulation, darkroom manipulations are regarded as traditional art rather than job related skill. Techniques are very similar to digital manipulation but they are harder to create than ones that are created digitally.

Technical retouching

Manipulation for photo restoration or enhancement (adjusting colors / contrast / white balance (i.e. gradational retouching), sharpness, removing elements or visible flaws on skin or materials, ...)
Creative retouching
Used as an art form or for commercial use to create more sleek and interesting creative images for advertisements. Creative retouching could be manipulation for fashion, beauty or advertising photography such as pack-shots (which could also be considered inherently technical retouching in regards to package dimensions and wrap-around factors) One of the most prominent disciplines in creative retouching is image-compositing. Here, the digital artist uses multiple photos to create a single composited image. Today, 3D elements are used more and more to add extra elements or even locations and backgrounds. This kind of image composition is widely used when conventional photography would be technically too difficult or impossible to shoot on location or in studio.

  • adding dog ears of hair
  • modifying dress coloring
  • dropping in the fantasy background
  • smoothing skin, etc.
This was the first image i used.
This was the second image i used.
This was the final image, the process was quite simple, all that was needed was to set the second image at the back, then use the rubber tool, to rub out the first image, so that the 2nd is veiwable. Afterwards, change The brightness and contast of the grass.
